Ecozones’s technology for the production of ozone from ambient air is unique and groundbreaking. Our ozone generators produce high ozone outputs from ambient air, especially when the air contains high levels of humidity.
Both high ozone concentrations and high humidity levels are necessary for disinfection treatments against bacteria and viruses.
Ozone generation technology
The unique technology of Ecozone for the production of ozone from ambient air is based on a special geometric structure of array. This array is comprised of double dielectric barriers (DDB) with air gaps between them. When ambient air flows through these gaps it is excited through transmission of electromagnetic energy to create “cold” plasma of oxygen in the air. This is achieved by the “double dielectric barrier µ-discharge” method.
The heart of the technology is in Ecozone’s Singlet core device through which ambient air flows, while the oxygen (O2) molecules in the air are selectively excited to intensively vibrate and break apart to oxygen ions. During this process, the excitation energy is tuned only to the vibrational states of the oxygen molecules. Thus, the nitrogen (N2) molecules that comprise about ~ 80% of the air, are not excited and are not altered nor broken apart to nitrogen ions.
The selective excitation of the oxygen molecules in the air is carried out by transmission of electromagnetic energy which resonates with the double-bond states of the oxygen molecule.
This process causes the oxygen molecules to intensively vibrate and decompose to oxygen ions (O). These oxygen ions are simultaneously re-combined with oxygen molecules (O2) to form ozone (O3).
The ozone generation process in this method is done without decomposition of the nitrogen molecules! The binding energy of the triple-bond electronic states of the nitrogen molecule (which is one of the strongest molecular bonds in nature) is much higher (about twice the energy) than of the double-bond electronic states of the oxygen molecule. This relatively large energy gap between the binding energies of the nitrogen and oxygen molecules enable them to selectively excite only the lower energy states and thus to resonate only with the oxygen molecules.
Using this method, the nitrogen molecules are not excited and are not broken into nitrogen ions. Accordingly, there is no recombination of nitrogen ions with oxygen ions and/or molecules. Thus, the formation of NOx molecules – which are harmful to people – is prevented.
In addition, more than 80% of the energy is saved since it is not wasted on the decomposition of nitrogen molecules.
Ionizing the oxygen molecules and thus breaking them apart into oxygen ions creates a “cold” plasma of oxygen ions. The term “cold” plasma indicates that the excitation energy, which is spent in the process of decomposition of the oxygen molecules, is absorbed only by the excited states of electrons binding the oxygen molecules, and is not wasted as kinetic energy of the heavy ions. Namely, the energy is absorbed only by the excited electrons which bind the oxygen molecules and not wasted to heat. Thus, the air is not heated (and stays “cold”).
This process creates a “non-thermal-equilibrium” in which only the electrons are “heated” while the ions stay “cold”.
Therefore, the process of producing ozone using the Ecozone double dielectric barrier µ-discharge method is highly efficient and saves much energy.
